Latest news Meetings: The next meeting of our Group takes place on Thursday February 23rd, 2012. Our visiting guest speaker on 23 February will be Mr Bob Whitehouse who is the Community Rail Officer with the Bishop Line Community Rail Partnership. I know from experience that Bob speaks with a depth of knowledge about rail operations in the region and that he does so with a well- organised clarity. There will also be an opportunity to ask Bob questions and to discuss other railway matters which you may care to raise. You will by now be aware that Mr Tom Clift – who spoke to us so interestingly at our December 2011 Open Meeting – is leaving his position as Managing Director of Grand Central at the end of February and is returning to his family base in Wales . Tom has kindly volunteered to visit the various rail user groups with whom he has been in contact these last few years in order to say Farewell and to introduce to them his successor, Mr Richard McClean. However, Tom is unable to visit Us on this occasion BUT Coastliners representatives have been invited to visit him later in the Month in York. Richard is becoming Managing Director of Grand Central in addition to his current role as Managing Director of the group’s Tyne and Wear Metro and he was formerly with GNER. We have been trying to arrange a date for Tom and Richard to visit Coastliners and an ideal date would obviously be 23 February. Because of the number of groups which Tom and Richard are attempting to visit, it is perhaps unlikely that Tom will be letting us know that 23 February is suitable to him and Richard. As things stand at the moment, therefore, our arrangements for 23 February – 6.30pm room availability for a 7.15pm start – stand. However, we have put it to Tom that it would be ideal if he and Richard were to be with us from 6.30pm onwards in order that ‘their’ part of the meeting does not interfere with Bob Whitehouse’s presentation.
